Director Common Rakesh Pal, the twenty fifth Director Common of the Indian Coast Guard (ICG), handed away in Chennai immediately after struggling a cardiac arrest. He was 58. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister paid their respects to the late officer on the hospital.

Singh later expressed his condolences on X, stating, “Deeply saddened on the premature demise of Shri Rakesh Pal, DG, Indian Coast Guard in Chennai immediately. He was an ready and dedicated officer underneath whose management ICG was making massive strides in strengthening India’s maritime safety. My heartfelt condolences to his bereaved household.”

Indian Navy additionally expressed grief on the passing away of Coast Guard DG Rajesh Pal.

Sri Lankan Ministry of Defence expressed its condolences and said, “Our ideas and prayers are together with his household at this troublesome hour.”

Rakesh Pal’s Illustrious Profession Spans Over 34 Years
Rakesh Pal, an alumnus of the Indian Naval Academy, joined the Indian Coast Guard in January 1989. Over his distinguished profession spanning greater than 34 years, Pal held a number of important positions each afloat and ashore. These included commanding varied ICG ships resembling ICGS Samarth, ICGS Vijit, ICGS Sucheta Kriplani, ICGS Ahalyabai, and ICGS C-03. He additionally commanded two ahead space Coast Guard bases in Gujarat, particularly Okha and Vadinar.
Pal was recognized for his experience in gunnery and weapons methods, having accomplished specialised coaching on the Indian Naval Faculty Dronacharya, Kochi, and an Electro-Optics Fireplace Management Resolution course in the UK. Notably, he was recognised because the First Gunner of the Indian Coast Guard, in response to the Indian Coast Guard.
In February 2022, Pal was promoted to the rank of Extra Director Common and was later appointed as Director Common Coast Guard in July 2023.
